The Mayor welcomed everyone to the meeting and reflected on the events of terror in Christchurch New Zealand and Sri Lanka.
He congratulated the newly elected councillor for Wallington North, Cllr Barry Lewis on his election. The Mayor announced that he had attended numerous events across the borough and throughout London, which included: Presenting a Gold Award with the Deputy Mayor of London, to Hackbridge Primary. World Prayer Day, Kurdish New Year celebrations, Sutton Women Mean Business Awards, Fairtrade weekend event, Temor Awareness Day, the Peace Symposium at Morden Mosque, the London Mayor’s Whittington Walk, an assembly at Cheam Park Farm School,, the 75th Anniversary of Operation Varsity with the Parachute regiment, Jack Petchey “Speak Out” Awards, Sutton Symphony concert at St Andrews Church and the inaugural Sutton Hindu and Buddhist New Year celebrations.
The Mayor invited two two representatives of his chosen charities to address the meeting. Firstly, Janet Mountford from Home-Start Sutton and then Dr Mike Bending from The Kidney Fund at St Helier Hospital, spoke about the support the Mayor had given the charities and the impact of a raised profile for their work.
