During 2020, Sutton Council introduced road closures and cycle
lanes around the borough on a 6 month trial to promote walking and
cycling – they were imposed without discussion in Sutton
North, Worcester Park, Butter Hill, Kings Lane, Wrayfield Road,
Foresters Drive, and in Sutton town centre.
They have provoked strong opinions. Having imposed them as a
temporary experiment, the Council assured residents they were
temporary, that they would study the results of the 6 month trial
then make a decision.
We believe the Council should stick to its word. The council should
keep its promise that these are temporary by suspending or removing
them at the end of the trial, while it looks at the results. The
Council should then share the results of the trial and agree
whether to bring them back based on the views of residents not
political whim.
